Bicentennial Celebration 5K Run / Walk Results Announced:

The official results of the Charlestown Bicentennial Celebration 5K Run / Walk, held Saturday, June 28th, 2008 at the Charlestown State Park have been released by Race Director Larry Lynn.  View the results by CLICKING HERE.

Tomorrow's History in a Capsule:

Would you like to communicate with your Kids or Grandchildren in 50 years?  Do you have words of wisdom for residents or city officials in the future?  Will our enthusiasm for the Bicentennial be revived for a 250-year city-wide celebration?

As the City of Charlestown celebrates its history, they are also preparing for future generations by collecting artifacts for a Time Capsule intended to be recovered and opened at the City’s Sesquibicentennial (250^th birthday) in 2058.  [ more ]

Where to Watch the Bicentennial Parade This Saturday:

The parade will begin Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. and will travel along Market Street (Highway #3) from the Charlestown High School to Main Street, ending on the City Square.  Spectators are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and find their favorite viewing spot early along Market Street for over an hour and a half of prime parade enjoyment. 

There will be two announcer viewing areas for the parade, the first located on Market Street between Water and Thompson Streets, with veteran narrator Rick Jackson on the microphone; and the second on Market Street near Clark Road, where the Indiana 9 TV & Indiana WNDA 1570 AM Radio Giant Boom Box will also provide parade play-by-play with Indiana 9 TV’s Krystal Goodner and Caroline Catlett.  Indiana WNDA 1570 AM will broadcast the entire Bicentennial Parade live from the Giant Boom Box remote.

Bicentennial Celebration Balloon Glow A Hugh Success:

The Charlestown Bicentennial Celebration Balloon Glow, the first of its kind in Charlestown, provided an estimated crowd of 2,500 a spectacular visual experience in the Charlestown State Park; as well as a prelude to the Saturday, June 21st evening race.  Summer's first evening provided excellent weather for the scenic State Park that, combined with fourteen hot air balloons, thrilled the kids and wow'ed the adults young and old in attendance.  Special thanks to sponsors AmeriGas, Wal-Mart, Hoosier Energy, Clark County REMC and US Bank for making the event possible with a FREE admission.  If you missed the event, you missed an excellent part of the Charlestown Bicentennial Celebration.  More Balloon Glow photos will soon be posted on the Moments Photography Bicentennial Photo Gallery.
